OF THE SHOULDER
Shoulder complaints are very common and can cause impairment during physical exercise and sports, when working at your occupation or even in coping with everyday activities. These symptoms can occur after accidents or without any trauma. It is important that they are detected and treated early in order to prevent any late sequelae or chronic conditions from developing.
The main injuries and diseases to be mentioned here are the following:
- Tendinosis calcarea (calcific tendonitis of the shoulder)
- Rotator cuff lesions (muscle/tendon rupture)
- Impingement syndrome
- Subacromial bursitis (inflammation of the joint sac)
- Dislocated shoulders (displacement of the joint)
- Labral tear or lesion (tear/rupture of the joint lip, labrum)
- Proximal humeral fractures (broken upper arm or humerus)
- Acromioclavicular (AC) joint dislocations (injuries to the scapuloclavicular joint of the shoulder)
- Clavicular fractures (broken collar bones)

Diagnostics
Prior to any treatment, an accurate diagnosis must be rendered. Besides meticulous medical history taking and a comprehensive physical examination, the following diagnostic options are available:
- Modern ultrasound diagnosis (sonography) with color duplex option
- Digital radiographic system (better image quality with markedly lower radiation exposure)
- Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
Therapy
We offer numerous therapeutic options:
- Shockwave therapy (focused or radial): our practice integrates it with ultrasound for pinpoint targeting
- Targeted injections and physiotherapy
- Rest and anti-inflammatory drugs
- Osteosynthesis procedures (stabilization of fractured bones) or soft tissue reconstructions (rotator cuff re-attachment, labral refixation etc.) or arthroscopic subacromial decompression (acromioplasty)
