INJURIES AND DISEASES
OF THE KNEE JOINT
The knee is the largest and most complicated joint in humans. It is a load-bearing joint and can be concurrently affected by injuries or wear. Specific symptoms include pain, swelling, feelings of instability and limited range of motion, among others.
The most important injuries and diseases of the knee & thigh are:
- Meniscus damage (traumatic and degenerative)
- Cartilage damage (traumatic and degenerative)
- Free joint bodies in the knee joint
- Mediopatellar plica
- Torn ligaments, particularly of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL)
- Patellar dislocations
- Patellar tendinopathy, jumper’s knee or similar conditions
- Joint wear (gonarthrosis)
- Shin splint syndrome
- Fractures of the knee joint
WHAT WE DO
FOR KNEE & UPPER LEG
Diagnostics
First, the events surrounding the accident and/or the patient’s medical history have to be documented exactingly. The facts obtained are used to render an accurate diagnosis. After the physical examination, including selected clinical tests, the following imaging methods may be used:
- Digital X-ray (better image quality with reduced radiation exposure)
- Modern ultrasound diagnosis (sonography) with color duplex option
- Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
Therapy
In the knee, as well, the initial therapeutic approach to our patients is to apply the most joint-preserving and gentlest therapy. Special compresses/dressings, intra-articular injections and anti-inflammatory drugs can be used for this purpose. Shockwave therapy can also be applied to the knee joint as a natural healing method. Sometimes, arthroscopic surgery is necessary. This is always performed using the more gentle key-hole technique and mostly very conveniently for the patients on an outpatient basis. In the case of advanced joint wear (high-grade gonarthrosis), a joint replacement may be inevitable.
The Practice
Our ultra-modern specialized medical practice features state-of-the-art equipment and medical technology. For example, you will be X-rayed by direct radiography to minimize your radiation exposure. We also have a decompression table for treating back conditions called SpineMED, a new non-surgical, drug-free procedure developed in the USA.
Our special services
We would like to provide you with the highest level of treatment according to best-practice methods. Unfortunately, this is not always covered by the statutory health insurance funds.
