INJURIES AND DISEASES
OF THE HIP & THIGH
Hip pain can be manifest in a variety of diseases, in arthrosis above all. In these cases, pain frequently occurs during exercise, later at rest, but can limit the walking distance as well. Athletes, particularly footballers, will frequently complain about groin pain and problems with their adductors.
Relevant orthopaedic, trauma surgery-related diagnoses include:
- Coxarthrosis (wear to the hip joint)
- Impingement syndromes with limitation of mobility
- Bursitis etc.
- Juvenile hip dysplasia
- Muscle injuries (adductors/femoral muscles)
- Femoral fractures
WHAT WE DO
FOR THE HIP & THIGH
Diagnostics
After medical history taking and targeted physical examination with special clinical tests, the following examinations can also be useful in the hip joint and pelvis:
- Digital X-ray (better image quality with reduced radiation exposure)
- Ultrasound examination (sonography) with color duplex option
- Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or computed tomography (CT), radiology
Therapy
Therapeutically, the approach is initially joint-preserving, particularly to treat joint wear, with conservative therapy options like physical therapy, laser or injection treatments. As appropriate, an arthroscopic intervention can be useful, before any total joint arthroplasty (artificial joint replacement) is considered.
