INJURIES AND DISEASES
OF THE ELBOW & FOREARM
Overuse / stress syndromes commonly develop in the elbow. Particularly in these conditions, timely treatment is important because a successful outcome of therapy is much more likely in the acute phase than if you wait until the chronic stage is reached. Furthermore, injuries can occur to the elbow as a result of trauma.
The ones we treat most frequently include:
- Tennis elbow or golfer’s elbow: This condition arises from improper use or/and overuse either during sports (tennis, badminton, squash, golf, etc.) or – much more commonly – is occupation-related, e.g. from working at a keyboard with suboptimal posture or the likes.
- Free joint bodies in the elbow joint
- Nerve compression syndromes (entrapment neuropathy)
- Injuries (torn ligaments, broken bones, sprains).
WHAT WE DO
FOR ELBOWS & LOWER ARMS
Diagnostics
The diagnostic methods available to us include medical history taking, comprehensive physical examination, targeted clinical tests as well as modern imaging methods (digital X-ray, ultrasound with color option, MRI scans, magnetic resonance imaging, referral to a computed tomography, CT)
Therapy
Our therapeutic approach to overuse/stress syndromes primarily consists of radial and/or extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) or their combination which we perform with the most modern devices on the market. This usually leads to a recovery, as contrasted with a mere suppression of the symptoms or pain. Transverse friction massages and targeted icing are among the further options on the conservative therapeutic spectrum. Surgical treatment remains the only option in patients with free joint bodies, serious ligament injuries or fractures near the elbow.
